Spring on the Mountain, Study
Acrylic on canvas 11" x 14"

I could paint this scene 100 times with the changing seasons and changing light. This one was done in early February of 2006 in the afternoon light. This view is from the top level of my barn looking south at the ridge of Sonoma Mountain. The mustard was just beginning to glow. Dave owns the vineyard across Sonoma Mountain Road, the vineyard in the top half of my painting. He’s moved away now, but it’s still Dave’s vineyard to me. It was a story day, and lucky I was in the barn painting since the skies opened up several times while I was painting. My intent was to capture the rolling hills of Sonoma Mountain and the vibrant colors of the vineyards as they begin to glow with the winter wildflowers.
