This painting began as a demonstration painting for the Kathleen Elsey Painting Workshop. My mantra - cover the canvas with paint. Let your eyes do the searching for shapes and colors. But rather think about shapes and colors. Light and values and shadows. Be bright and bold, loose and free. Do not judge your work too early. But rather paint with passion and get some feeling into the paint. One day during the studio painting workshop, we will walk to Santa Barbara's East Beach across the street, visit Brophy's Fish Restaurant, and then do some beach sketching. We will work from our sketches and photos to make a beach painting. Next week, we begin the Santa Barbara Plein Air "Paint the Colors of Spring in Santa Barbara." Plan to have a Santa Barbara brush with life blast! You might also like to see the other Kathleen Elsey Beach Breakfast paintings I have made in this very same painting studio overlooking the beach.
