“Old Adobe with Olive Trees” Sold

This painting was made on location in Santa Barbara at the Historical Museum in historic old town. The old adobe was built in 1836 and acquired by the museum in the 1980s. Thank you to the Historical Museum for allowing me to enjoy the beauty of the old adobe and olive tree swaying in a gentle breeze on that spring afternoon. Below you see how I begin a painting when working plein air. I attempt to get most of the important shapes and colors and values on the canvas during that first few hours on location. Then I can finish the painting in the studio with my sketches and photos as reference.
