Table in the Oak Grove  16" x 20"  2004 Sold

Table in the Oak Grove

Painting this shady table began on location when the lavender had been cut into tidy green mounds. The field was full of weeds, burnt golden brown by the Indian summer sun. The autumn leaves had begun to fall, and the wooden table, shaded by oak trees, was cast in shadows. I worked on this painting much more in my studio, attempting to capture the serene shady intimacy of this table on the side of Sonoma Mountain. The trees, the earth, the table and chairs were the same color as each other, and I wanted to paint them as if they were one, obscured by the each other, becoming one. I will visit this table again, in another season, another time of day and paint it again.

I also painted a 30" x 40" canvas of this same scene, also called Table in the Oak Grove. The version above was begun in 2004. The larger painting of this scene was painted in 2006. Both have been sold. I would like to revisit this peaceful site in Sonoma County.
