This area of Sonoma County feels and looks like Provence as I stand amidst 4,000 lavender plants and hundreds of olive trees. This painting was made in the summer just before the lavender harvest at Matanzas Creek Winery. It was my intent to capture the intensity of the color of the lavender and the clear blue sky. I wish I could have painted the air, the buzzing of the bees and the scent of the lavender for you to enjoy as I did on that hot summer day. Kathleen Elsey, California artist
