I met my new friend, Sue, during the 2006 Sedona Plein Air Festival. In my search to find interesting scenes to paint, Sue took me to her land at Red Rock Crossing. From her ranch there is a great view of “Cathedral” and her crooked creek and meandering meadow of aspen trees in their full glory of color. And of course, with the beautiful afternoon sunlight just before sunset, the colors were on fire as the sky got darker. I was so enthralled with painting, that I almost forgot it was getting dark quickly (which it does in Sedona!) so had to pack up my gear fast and get out of there on that little unmarked dirt road on Sue's acreage. I did exhibit the painting in the Sedona Plein Air gallery that weekend. I sold another of my favorites from that week of painting in Sedona and it's environs – "Jerome." But "Cathedral, Morning" came home to California with me and it has been packed away in my garage for nearly eight years. Finally, I am pleased that it is finished and looking for a better home than my garage warehouse. |
